Bellarmine Theatre’s Spring Play, Antigone
A young woman, trying to discover herself, decides to defy her uncle in order to follow her beliefs. The problem, her uncle is King and her beliefs compel her to break the law, under penalty of death. While the name Oedipus has entered into modern discourse, Oedipus’ daughter, Antigone, remains less familiar. Her journey from princess to prisoner, from confused young woman to willing to stand for her own beliefs, from “ugly” youth to beautifully understood, connects to all teenagers, discovering their own identity, and rebelling against authority.
