Bellarmine's Department of Fitness and Health is designed to help students become keenly aware of life-long physical fitness, health, nutrition, and wellness.
All students must complete two semesters of departmental coursework for graduation:
- Sophomores are required to take the semester-long Fitness and Health class, which focuses primarily on cardiovascular fitness along with some resistance weight training. Educational units on drugs and alcohol, sexuality and nutrition will also be included.
- The second semester-long requirement may be completed through an approved Fitness and Health elective or waived if a student fully participates in two seasons of Bellarmine interscholastic (i.e. non-club) sports by the completion of his junior year. Not all Fitness and Health course offerings fulfill this requirement, therefore it is important to review the comments included with each elective to determine its applicability.
