National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Several Bellarmine seniors are Semifinalists in the National Merit® Scholarship Corporation’s (NMSC®) 2023 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Congratulations to the following 16 Bells: Casey Chen ’23, Rishi Dinesh ’23, Siddharth Dinkar ’23, Elliot Kim ’23, Richard Lin ’23, Peter Ly ’23, Johnpaul Mitiguy ’23, Adarsh Nallapa ’23, Abdulsalam Raja ’23, Tanish Rao ‘23, Rafael Romo ’23, Kuzma Shepelev ’23, Nirmal Shiju ’23, Nathaniel Thai ’23, Alexander Truong ’23, and Varun Vemulapalli ’23.

As noted by the NMSC® in its September 14 announcement, “These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.”

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the 16,000 Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
