Bellarmine Granted Continued Sponsorship by Jesuits West Province

Jesuits West Province

The Jesuits West Province of the Society of Jesus – the Jesuit Order – has granted Bellarmine College Preparatory its continued sponsorship, affirming the school’s Catholic Jesuit identity and alignment with the mission of the Society.

In his letter dated November 22, 2021, to Matt Medeiros, chair of Bellarmine’s Board of Trustees, Sean Carroll, S.J., Jesuits West Provincial, noted that he is particularly “grateful for the school’s work in issues of justice, rooted both in the Gospels and our shared Ignatian mission. The efforts the school has made in environmental justice and care for our common home are admirable. So, too, are your efforts in racial justice and in walking with the excluded and marginalized.”

Receiving the continued sponsorship of the Jesuits West Province is the result of a lengthy report and supporting documentation provided by the school and follows a visit by a team of Jesuit educators who conducted on-site interviews with a variety of Bellarmine constituencies.

“We are so grateful to Fr. Carroll and to all of the Jesuit Order for their ongoing trust in the excellent work that is happening each day at Bellarmine,” noted Chris Meyercord ’88, Bellarmine president. “We are guided by the Jesuit mission to form young men for and with others – people who will put their God-given talents at the service of others – and we are grateful to have so many excellent examples of that kind of service from the Jesuits and lay men and women who work here at Bellarmine.”

Provincial Carroll concluded his letter by noting, “Bellarmine College Preparatory is an excellent example of an authentically Jesuit school – you have my deepest gratitude.”
