The West Coast Championship Quiz Bowl tournament took place on Saturday, March 27.
“We’ve been attending online tournaments using Discord all year, but this was the first to include teams from the entire West Coast, not just Northern California,” noted Chris Fleitas, Bellarmine English teacher and Quiz Bowl head coach.
The Bells got off to an excellent start, edging out Harker 235-230. “We went 1-3 in the other prelims, which put us in a consolation bracket for the afternoon’s games, but that also meant we had three well-matched, very close games with teams from Oregon and San Diego – all three of which we won, finishing the day at 5-3,” noted Fleitas.
Among the students representing Bellarmine were Richard Lin ’23 (the team’s literature expert who led the Bells with a 57-point per game average; the 6th highest in the Competitive division), Ethan Yu ‘22, Dhruv Rao ‘22, Andrew Tan ’21, and Sam Arthur ‘24.
