Green Ribbon Award Presentation

Green Ribbon Award Presentation, Green Ribbon, Sustainability

During a ceremony held on August 8 in Washington, D.C., three representatives of Bellarmine College Prep received special recognition from the U.S. Department of Education for the school’s environmental sustainability efforts.

Stephen Flowers, Bellarmine’s Green Initiatives coordinator; Ron Miller, CFO; and Patrick Adams, inaugural Green Initiatives coordinator; received the 2023 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools award from Cindy Marten, deputy secretary; Loredana Valtierra, policy advisor; and Christopher Maricle and George Garcia from the California Dept. of Education.

Bellarmine College Prep was among 26 schools, 11 districts, and four postsecondary institutions from across the country recognized for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impacts and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective sustainability and environmental education. Representatives from the awardees received sustainably crafted plaques and banners in recognition of their achievements. The event was sponsored by the Spencer Foundation.

The honorees were named in April from a pool of candidates nominated by 18 states.
