Joe Dickerson '06 Selected as One of Eight Officials for the FIFA World Cup Referee Team

With the World Cup underway, we’re celebrating one of our own from behind the scenes.

Joe Dickerson ‘06 is one of just eight US officials selected for the FIFA World Cup referee team! As a Video Match Official (VAR), Joe helps review some of the tournament’s biggest moments — from goals to potential red cards — supporting the center referees in making the right call.

At Bellarmine, Joe was a soccer, baseball, and cross-country athlete, bringing home CCS Championships in soccer and baseball during his senior year. He became a professional soccer referee in 2013 and began officiating MLS games in 2017. Last year, with more than 100 MLS games under his belt, he was named US Soccer Male Referee of the Year, and this summer his career has taken him to the world stage.

Recognized by The Guardian as “one of North America’s best referees,” Joe has earned his place among the world’s elite officials. Congratulations, Joe!
