Bellarmine Robotics Team 254 Takes Title at Silicon Valley Tournament

Robotics

The weekend of April 9, Bellarmine’s FRC Robotics team competed in the Silicon Valley Regional, held at the San Jose State University Event Center. There were 59 teams competing at the tournament, with Team 254, The Cheesy Poofs, ranking first at the end of the qualification round. “Three teams traded back and forth in rankings, but at the end of the qualification round, Team 254 ranked 1st and Team 1678 from Davis ranked 2nd, a repeat of the Sacramento Regional standings,” noted Ann Johnson, Team 254 moderator. “We partnered together along with Team 7419 from Dublin, California, and our alliance won the tournament!”

Ms. Johnson also noted that Team 254 competed against Team 971 from Mountain View in the finals. “Teams 1678 and 971 are frequent visitors to our practice field and are among the teams that we work together with often.”

Bellarmine’s Team 254 also received the Quality Award, recognizing machine robustness in concept and fabrication.

Another highlight of the tournament was the debut of the new 'Cheesy Care' cart, which Ms. Johnson describes as “a rolling toolbox equipped with tools and spare parts making it easier for our robot first aid/alliance readiness teams to repair and enhance other teams’ robots. We helped numerous teams with repairs and emergency part replacements between their matches!”

Next up for Team 254 is competing during spring break at the FRC World Championship in Houston, Texas, April 19-24.

Congratulations to all the Team 254 coaches, moderators, and participants.
