Bellarmine Announces New Head of Program for Lacrosse

Bellarmine College Preparatory is happy to announce that Charles “Chad” Tyler will be taking over as the new Head of Program for Bellarmine Lacrosse.

Coach Tyler brings a great deal of knowledge and coaching experience to the Lacrosse Program at Bellarmine. He joins the Bells after an 18-year career in the United States Marine Corps, and over seven years working in the technology sector in Silicon Valley. A native of upstate New York, Tyler was a three-year letter-winner for Franklin & Marshall College as a midfielder and team captain his senior year. After a season-ending injury, he helped lead the Diplomats to a #5 national ranking and the Quarterfinals of the Division III NCAA Tournament. Prior to joining the Diplomats, Tyler was a 3 x All-State and 2 x All Mid-West attackman for Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio.

After college, he spent over 11 years as a Marine aviator flying UH-1Y Super Huey helicopters out of Camp Pendleton, California with three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He currently serves in this same capacity as a LtCol in the Select Marine Corps Reserve. A 2003 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Psychology, Tyler holds an MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Management. He has flown over 2,200 flight hours in six different type/model aircraft.

An active member of the Firehawks Lacrosse Club coaching staff, Tyler resides in San Jose with his wife Mia, and their sons Dylan (6) and Logan (4).

Coach Tyler is excited to begin this spring and pass on his lacrosse and leadership knowledge to the student-athletes at Bellarmine. “I am thrilled and privileged to join the Bellarmine community” said Coach Tyler. “Instructing and teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I could not be happier to blend Bellarmine's commitment to Ignatian values and a Jesuit education with the core values I have taken from my time in the Marine Corps."

“Bellarmine is beyond excited to welcome Coach Tyler to the lacrosse program,” said Athletic Director Kevin Saldivar. “I am looking forward to Coach Tyler teaching our young men not only about lacrosse but about leadership and perseverance. We’re excited to see Coach Tyler build upon the success of his predecessors and build his own Bellarmine Lacrosse legacy!”
