NEW SEASON BEGINS FOR BELLS SPEECH & DEBATE TEAM

Bellarmine’s Speech & Debate team members competed virtually the weekend of January 8-10 at the ASU Invitational tournament. “This was a great season opener for many of our guys,” noted coach Aaron Langerman. “It’s awesome to see our depth in speech continue to grow at these competitive invitationals as the season progresses and our debaters continue to perform well.”

Langerman credited the “extemp squad” for getting so many people into the top 14. “The success below is especially impressive given that many of our top seniors sat this tournament out to preserve their stamina for the upcoming weeks,” he noted.

Policy Debate:

  • Ram Gorthi ’22 and Akhil Iyengar ’22 – semifinalist (top 4)
  • Ben Manens ’22 and Nimai Talur ’22 – quarterfinalist (top 8)

Congressional Debate:

  • Veer Juneja ’22 – 3rd place finalist
  • Jason Cappelloni ’22 – semifinalist
  • Nathan Gong ’22 – semifinalist

Extemp:

  • Ashok Ramkumar ‘21 – 2nd place finalist
  • Kush Narang ’22 – 3rd place finalist
  • Ryan Alappatt ’22 – 4th place finalist
  • Owen Thompson ‘22 – semifinalist
  • Nihaar Charagulla ‘22 – semifinalist
  • Francis Olakangil ’23 – semifinalist
  • Anthony Reynolds ’22 – semifinalist

Original Oratory:

  • Saket Budhia ’22 – 4th place finalist
  • Arnav Dhingra ’23 – 6th place finalist
  • Nathan Kang ’22 – semifinalist
  • John Xu ’22 – semifinalist

Duo Interpretation:

  • Finbarr Donovan ’22 and Devansh Bansal ’22 – 3rd place finalists

The Speech & Debate team will be busy the weekend of January 15-17 competing in the Logan MLK Invitational, after which a final set of league tournaments will occur before the qualifying tournaments in March.
