Course Description: It often seems we live in a world in which alienation is the norm, heroism is dead, and love is difficult to come by. In this course, we will journey with Ken Kesey's flamboyant hero R.P. McMurphy (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest), the twisted and comic characters of Flannery O'Connor (A Good Man Is Hard to Find) and J.D. Salinger (Nine Stories), and the courageous heroines of Michael Dorris (A Yellow Raft in Blue Water) as they challenge the assumptions of a jaded world and struggle to forge a more meaningful one for themselves and others.
