Introduction to Sports

For Children 6 to 10 years of age
Introduction to Sports" camps are a series of camps designed for boys and girls 6 to 10 years of age. The fundamentals of basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and football will be covered as well as time for more informal activities such as swimming, ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, dodge ball and team handball. The emphasis is on fun while developing confidence in the skills of teamwork, sportsmanship and competition.
What to Bring: Starting on the first day of camp, the campers should bring: swimsuit, towel, water, snack or money to buy a snack, hat and sunscreen, tennis or athletic shoes. Please no Game Boys, IPods, etc.
Drop off and Pick Up: This year the campers should be dropped off between 8:45-9:00 at West Liccardo located next to the main parking lot off of Hedding Street. We ask that you accompany your child in and sign him/her in each day. Pick up will be at the same location and again we will ask that you come in and sign your child out.

Baseball

Baseball camp includes instruction in all facets of the sport of baseball including: hitting, pitching, batting, base running, learning position, conditioning and mental preparation.
What to Bring: Baseball glove, hat, bats, a white t-shirt with first and last name on the student-athlete on the back. Optional: Baseball pants

Basketball

Each camper will receive a solid education in basketball skills and personal values, and a written evaluation by the student-athlete's coach.
Boys entering the 7th and 8th Grades: This camp will help prepare junior high school student-athletes to succeed on their current teams as well to advance to high school basketball. This camp is for motivated players.
Incoming freshmen: The incoming freshmen camp is a chance for future Bellarmine students to meet other students, form friendships, and prepare for the tough competition found in WCAL Basketball.
Boys and Girls; 7th through 10th Grade:This camp will emphasize the techniques of proper shooting. Players will practice and learn drills and techniques that will enhance their shooting ability.
What to Bring: Basketball shoes, two pairs of socks, gym shorts, towel and a t-shirt with first and last name of the student-athlete on the back.

Cross Country

This camp will offer the latest cross country training for anyone desiring to eventually compete on the high school level. The camp will emphasize the development of student-athlete in core-training (i.e. proper mileage, weight training, speed work, and hill training.)
What to Bring: Running shoes, white socks, comfortable shorts and a white t-shirt with first and last name of the student-athlete on the back.

Football

The foundation of the football camp is to have the student-athletes learn the basic skills necessary to do well in junior high and high school football. Campers will learn the same offensive and defensive skills used by the Bellarmine football teams.
What to Wear: Athletic shoes, white socks, blue gym shorts and a white t-shirt with first and last name of the student-athlete on the back.

Lacrosse

The goal of the lacrosse camp is to advance the interest in the sport and to develop the necessary skills for young men to compete in the sport at the high school level. The camp will develop the individual into a team player who will respect the game, his teammates and sportsmanship. Some of the activities will include: offensive and defensive stick skills and strategy, offensive dodges, shooting skills and defensive positioning.
What to Bring: Lacrosse helmet, shoulder pads, arm/elbow pads, gloves, athletic supporter, cleats, tennis shoes, chest and throat protectors for goalies. Football pads will not work for lacrosse. (No equipment available at the camp.)

Soccer

This camp will offer to the student-athlete an attacking style of play that encourages both skill with the ball, intelligent understanding of tactics and the love of the game. The camp will emphasize shooting, passing, dribbling, heading, and tactics.
What to Bring: Soccer shoes, shin guards, comfortable shorts, and a t-shirt with first and last name of the student-athlete on the back.

Strength & Conditioning

The Camp will allow the student-athlete to become more competitive in the sport of his or her choice. They will learn the proper way to train, safety in their training and how to live a healthier lifestyle. Each camper will be challenged to attain his or her proper level of strength and conditioning.
What to bring: Athletic shoes, white socks, gym shorts (preferably blue), and a white t-shirt with first and last name of the student-athlete on the back. Please also bring things to drink, such as bottles of water or gatorade.

Track & Field

The camp will offer the latest training for all track and field events: sprints, jumps, weights, hurdles and distance running. The camp will have instruction on stretching, flexibility, diet and competition.
What to bring: Running shoes, white socks, comfortable shorts and a white t-shirt with first and last name of the student-athlete on the back.

Volleyball

The camp will emphasize the fundamental skills necessary to be successful and to have fun playing volleyball. The camper will learn game situations and drills, authentic competitive simulations, specialty positions and responsibilities, court sense and conditioning.
What to Bring: Shorts, non-marking sole athletic shoes, a towel, and a white t-shirt with first and last name on the back.

Water Polo

The emphasis of this co-ed camp is to teach fundamental skills needed to be successful in this sport. Student-athletes will learn individual and team concepts for eventual use in junior high and high school. There will be workouts in the pool along with classroom sessions covering strategy and mental preparation. The camp will include conditioning, individual and group skills, development drills, game situations and scrimmages.
What to Bring: Swim suit, towel, goggles and sunscreen.

Wrestling

This camp is for beginning athletes and intermediate student-athletes who want to become better in their sport. The student-athletes will be introduced to the scoring system, basic take downs, escapes, reversals, and pin holds. Each camper will be grouped with others of the same weight, skill level and age.
What to Bring: Athletic type shoes, clean t-shirt (daily) and gym type shorts.

High School Jump Camp (Bell's Jump Camp).

This camp will cover all jumps and plyometric training with lifting and core work.

Rugby
-
Participants will learn the basics of rugby in a non-contact venue. No prior experience is necessary. Based on the “Rookie Rugby” model, passing, rules and strategies of the game, communication on the field, and team play will be the focus of the camp. The camp is coed and open to players from 5th to 9th grade. Participants will be grouped according to age and skill level.
What to wear: Athletic shorts, a t-shirt with the first and last name of the student on the back. Cleats (molded) are optional.
