Computing & Design Courses

The below courses satisfy one semester in each of the subject areas. Students that have completed the 9th grade prior to summer school enrollment are eligible to receive 5 units of credit  for each of these classes. A student that has not completed the 9th grade may take the course for enrichment only.

Animation with Flash

This course introduces animation techniques using Adobe Flash. Topics include timelines, movie clips, sound, basic drawing techniques, buttons and publishing to the internet. Extensive projects will include: Photo slideshow, 2D object animations, embedding movie clips within an animation, adding interactivity using buttons, incorporating sounds and publishing to the internet.

Web Design for Mobile Devices

Create interactive web pages for mobile devices like the iPod Touch or Droid. This course will be mostly online with weekly sessions on campus. You will develop web pages integrating text, graphics, JavaScript and video. You will experience all stages of web site creation, including choosing a domain name, selecting a web host, designing a page layout, creating graphics for the web, creating web pages, publishing the site to a web server and updating the site. By the second week, you will have your own site on the world wide web.The latest technologies including HTML 5 and CSS for web page creation will be emphasized. You will also learn some basic JavaScript to make your web pages interactive. You will gain exposure to both free web page tools as well as Adobe Dreamweaver for site creation. Having a mobile device compatible with Android, iPhone, iPod Touch, or WebOS would be helpful.

This course is offered both online and in person. Students will receive instructions and a schedule from the instructor on the first day of class.
