Opportunities for Growing Your Spirituality

Prayer is an important part of each of our lives. We pray together every day as a school community and encourage you to find quiet time for individual prayer. We begin each school week with the words of St. Ignatius, Founder of the Society of Jesus:

Prayer for Generosity
St. Ignatius (2).jpg

Lord, Teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward,
Except that of knowing that I do your will.

St. Ignatius of Loyola,
Pray for Us.

Freshmen Retreat

This mandatory overnight retreat (mid-day Saturday to mid-day Sunday) welcomes the freshman class to the Bellarmine community and introduces them to the spiritual life of the school. Freshmen, teachers, Big Brothers and upperclassmen, serving as retreat leaders, gather to share a variety of activities including liturgy, prayer, reflection, discussion, hospitality and social activity.

Sophomore Retreats

Students take a day away from the busyness of school to reflect on their gifts and talents, examine the characteristics of leadership evident in Jesus' ministry, and consider the call to share their personal gifts and talents with others.

The overnight retreat is open to all sophomores - no recommendation is required. It runs from 3:00 pm on day 1 to approximately 2:45 pm on day 2, and is offered four times throughout the year to fit individual schedules.

Contact Ms. Scott-Florez for more information.

Big Brothers Leadership Retreat

All Big Brothers will attend an overnight retreat in September to ground themselves in Christian leadership principles and to prepare themselves to lead Freshman Retreat in October.

This four-day retreat is an opportunity for juniors and seniors to reflect on self and relationships with God, family and friends. Through the experience of group discussion, prayer and Sacraments, students are helped to see life in a new way, and more fully appreciate the remaining days of high school and the years ahead.

Mother - Junior Son / Father - Senior Son Retreats

With recognition of God’s presence, this overnight retreat is a time for deepening the bond of love between mother and son or father and son. There is time for sharing, prayer and relaxation.

Wilderness Retreats

Small group of students will venture out to contemplate their image of God over several days in the Sierras. This new retreat will blend Ignatian spirituality with the quiet of the backcountry.

Applications for the April 2017 retreat are now closed.

Spiritual Direction

You have the opportunity to meet regularly with a spiritual director who can help you to see how God is leading you and how you are responding.

Christian Life Communities (CLC)

Small groups of students form CLC groups to support one another in living a Christian lifestyle. Ignatian spirituality is at the heart of these students' desire to form community, to pray and to live their lives in service to others.

The Sacraments

You are invited to lector, sing in the choir, share reflections, and serve as Eucharistic Ministers. A list of all-school liturgies, prayer services, Magis Masses and other services is available on the Liturgy Schedule webpage.

During the seasons of Advent and Lent, students are given the opportunity through their Religious Studies classes to participate in a communal prayer service in the Leontyne Chapel. The service is a time of private reflection, making an examination of conscience, and celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Seniors who have not arranged for Confirmation through their local parish may complete their preparation at Bellarmine through the Religious Studies Department. A special Confirmation ceremony is planned in cooperation with the Diocese of San Jose.
