President's Letter

As we begin the 2009-2010 academic year, I feel blessed to work with the Board of the Bellarmine Dads’ Club as well as all of the dads who give of there time to make the school better for our boys.

The Board is charged with running a service organization that was formed for the purpose of:

  • Chairing and supporting specific events to further development of Bellarmine College Preparatory and family/son rapport;
  • Assisting the President, Vice President for Development, and other administrators in accomplishing designated objectives;
  • Promoting increased awareness of the Christian Community at Bellarmine.

All dads at Bellarmine are automatically members of the Dads’ Club.  If you would like to help out by volunteering time throughout the year, please contact Ed Ruder, at ed@ruders.org .  Getting involved is a great way to meet new friends, share activities with your son and create your very own “Bellarmine Experience.”
Here are some upcoming events to watch for:

These are just a few activities that keep us quite busy during the year. It is our way of emulating to our sons what a “Man for Others” means.

I look forward to meeting the freshmen dads, and hope that all dads take the opportunity to become involved in our incredible school.

Go Bells!

  • Solidarity Dinner a Success

    540 people gathered for a simple dinner and an evening of prayer and reflections to learn about Bellarmine’s sister relationship with a rural community in Agua Escondida, El Salvador. Over the last 9 years Bellarmine has been visiting and financially supporting a Kindergarten in Agua Escondida.

    The school has had a great impact on the health, education, and lives of the students. Recently, the mothers of the students have been inspired to organize themselves and start lessons in how to bring more money into their community.

    These women and children live out the message of hope as illustrated by this quote from St. Augustine.

    “Hope has two beautiful daughters. Their names are anger and courage. Anger at the way things are. Courage to make them the way they ought to be.”

    The hope of the immersion coordinators is that our students learn this message of hope. That their hearts are broken from the reality of this world and that they are courageous enough to take action and make a difference.

    This has already begun to happen. Four students eloquently spoke on their experience this past summer in El Salvador and the effects that trip has had on their lives. Please read two of the reflections from Ben Roach and Alex Gucinski attached here.

    The evening was a success due to the efforts of many people:
    The Bellarmine Mothers’ Guild, especially Chris Barmeier-Caballero
    The Bellarmine Kitchen Staff and Nancy Janda
    The Parents of the Bellarmine delegation and students who helped to set-up, serve, and clean after the dinner
    Mike Monroe and Mondo Burrito for their donations
    Terry Ryan and Fr. Bob Mathewson for their prayers
    Steve Hartley for setting up the tech needs

    Thanks again for your continued support of this program and all of Bellarmine’s Immersion experiences,
    Paul Spitzmueller, Katie Passalacqua (Immersion Co-Directors) and Megan Murphy (Director of the El Salvador Immersion)

    "As a parent, I've experienced the wonderful impact the Bellarmine community has had on our family. My sons—Patrick, a senior, and Sean, a sophomore—came to Bellarmine as boys, but will leave as men for others. For the past four years, Jan and I have been contributing to the Parents' Fund. We give what we can to support Bellarmine as it has supported our sons beyond our expectations. If you haven't made a Parents' Fund gift yet, I encourage you to consider contributing an amount that is right for you."
