Recent graduate Nikhil Buduma will represent the United States for the second consecutive year at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) later this summer. Buduma, a three-time qualifier for the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) National Finals, earned gold at last year's IBO.

Nick Medal '13 took full advantage of his four years at Bellarmine, taking courses which challenged him, participating in numerous co-curricular activities, and using his leadership skills for the benefit of his classmates and the school. Medal's experience is featured in the Rose Garden Resident, a neighborhood publication of the Mercury News.

Bellarmine Alumni Theatre (B.A.T.) presents That Championship Season by Jason Miller July 11-14 in Bellarmine's Black Box Theatre.

The Bells turned in a stunning performance at the Central Coast Section (CCS) track finals on May 24th, and brought home the team championship title for their efforts.

Members of the Free the Children Club sponsored a "water walk" on May 17th, which served as a fundraiser to help them toward their goal of building a school in Kenya, and simulated for its participants the experience which many African girls live each day in order to provide clean water for their villages.

Toshiba and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) announced on May 1st that the Bellarmine-sponsored team of Nikhil Buduma, Alex Powers, Nithin Buduma and Natalie Ng has been named 2013 ExploraVision National Winners at the 10-12th grade level.

The REACH Youth Scholarship Program recognized senior captain of the golf team, Jonathon Purcell, during an awards ceremony on May 1st. True to the purview of the program, Jonathon has overcome adversity to excel in academics and sports.

The Bells ended St. Francis' twelve game winning streak at home on April 30th, with a dramatic 1-0 win in the bottom of the seventh.

Junior Sameer Rai swept the National History Bowl in Washington, DC, April 27th and 28th, earning titles as National History Bowl Champion, National History Bee Champion, MVP and Best Solo Team.

The varsity tennis team won their ninth consecutive WCAL title with a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral on April 19th, closing out league play at 13-1. Moving into the WCAL Individual Tournament at Cuesta Park on April 24th and 25th, Bellarmine took first, third and fourth place in singles play, and fourth place in doubles.

Five of our VEX teams competed at the VEX World Championships, which were held at the Anaheim Convention Center, April 17-20. Although their success on the field was not as hoped, they were recognized with the Website Award, and mentor Pat Fairbank, was named Mentor of the Year.

Our Speech and Debate team prevailed over the competition at the California High School Speech Association's (CHSSA) state tournament this past weekend, bringing home their eighth consecutive championship title. The Bells earned first place finishes in International Extemp, Original Advocacy, Policy Debate and Public Forum Debate.

The USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) has named senior Nikhil Buduma as a National Finalist in its premiere biology competition. As one of only 20 finalists from throughout the country, and one of only nine from California, Nikhil will participate in the USABO's summer program at Purdue University.

The varsity volleyball team met some resistance against rival Saint Francis, but still controlled the game and cruised to a win Monday night, April 15th, in their home gym. After taking the first two sets 25-20 and 25-20, the Bells dropped the 3rd 22-25, but charged back to take the fourth set and the match, 25-17.

The varsity swim team continued their dominance yesterday, using superior team depth and outstanding individual performances to top their WCAL archrival Saint Francis, 120-60.

Our track and field teams came through with decisive victories in the first two WCAL meets of the year.

Our speech and debate program has been in full competition mode for the last few weekends, as Coast Forensic League (CFL) state qualifiers wrapped up. The Bells dominated in Public Forum, Policy and Lincoln Douglas Debate and qualified 22 to individual events.

A record number of teachers, students, parents, classes, teams and clubs participated in our Lenten Food Drive this year, with food and fund donations translating into 6236 meals for the hungry in our community.

VEX Robotics Team 254D won the inaugural VEX Robotics California State Championships March 15th and 16th. Five of Bellarmine's seven VEX teams qualified for the tournament.

The Varsity rugby team traveled to Dallas, Texas, March 9th and 10th, to participate in the 2013 Dallas Jesuit Rugby Tournament. Often outsized but never outplayed, the team went on to win the championship game and receive a most unusual trophy, the Golden Boot!

Team 254 was victorious on two fronts at the 7th Annual San Diego Regional FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), bringing home a first place win and the Motorola Quality Award.

The Bells varsity basketball team cruised past Lincoln High School of San Francisco, 65-46, in the opening round of the Northern California Division 1 Regionals.

Varsity lacrosse started their season on a strong note as they jumped out to an early lead against the visiting Menlo-Atherton Bears and never trailed, in a sound 11-4 win on their home turf.

Varsity baseball opened up their season with a solid 3-0 win against Leland High School Thursday afternoon, February 21st. The game was the first ever played on the brand new Bob Fatjo Field.

Ten Bells were named to the West Catholic Athletic League's (WCAL) All League Teams for winter sports. Senior Matt DeQuiroz was honored as soccer's Defender of the Year. First Team commendations went to Grant Vermeer for basketball, as well as Matt DeQuiroz and Marco Saglimbeni for soccer.

Longtime varsity football coach, Mike Janda, has been named a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Model Coach Award winner. The CIF Model Coach Award program, now in its 12th year, recognizes coaches who have served as positive role models in their schools and communities, demonstrating and teaching the six core ethical values (i.e., the "Six Pillars of Character"): trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.

The wrestling team closed out league play on February 9th with the WCAL championships held at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Connor Leahy captured first place at 170 pounds, and teammate Chris Sanchez took second at 220 pounds.

Our Science Bowl team took top honors at the Northern California Regional Science Bowl competition on February 9th, defeating the team from The Harker School, 80 - 38. The regional competition for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl was held at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in Palo Alto.

Six Bellarmine students joined other Catholic high schoolers from across the country at the Ignatian Solidarity Network's (ISN) Arrupe Leaders Summit in Los Gatos January 18 - 20. Emerging student leaders in social justice were invited to attend the summit, which focused on strengthening their capacities to effect positive social change while deepening their understanding of the relationship between faith and justice, as emphasized in the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Faculty member Kevin McMahon has been selected to serve a two-year term as an Adobe Education Leader (AEL). The position recognizes Mr. McMahon's work as innovative on a global scale, with the potential to influence others beyond the Bellarmine community.

Nikhil Buduma and Debnil Sur were among 300 students selected as semifinalists in Intel's Science Talent Search (STS) last week. Considered one of the nation's most prestigious pre-college science competitions, the Intel STS encourages US high school seniors to pursue independent research in science, math, engineering and medicine.

Bellarmine's varsity soccer team triumphed at the Nike Southern California High School Classic, taking first place in the Boys Showcase West division.

Kenneth Olugbode was cited for his leadership of the Bellarmine football team and honored as the Mercury News Football Player of the Year yesterday. Teammates Dominic Luca, Joey Sanfilippo, KJ Carta-Samuels, Jaden Sawyer and Alex Abiog were named to All-Mercury News teams.

Freshman Alex Chien won first place in the Longer Works division of the 2012 Los Angeles International Liszt Competition which was held the weekend of November 17th.

The Varsity A roller hockey team bested Pioneer High School to win the D1 Roller Hockey Championship on December 8th.

A contingent of seven students and two alumni advisors represented the Bellarmine community at the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (JSEA) Diversity Leadership Conference. The conference, which was held in Seattle November 10th and 11th, focused on unity and ways to create it.

The Bellarmine Blue roller hockey team ended the fall season with the determination, endurance and skill that led them to a championship victory over the Mitty Black team on December 8th.

Our seven VEX robotics teams employed a "divide and conquer" strategy this past weekend, as the teams split up and traveled to one of two regional tournaments. Teams 254 A, C and F headed down south for the Los Angeles Regional competition which was held at CSU Northridge on December 8th, while Teams 254 B, D, E and G stayed closer to home, competing on the same day at the Central Valley Sack Attack Tournament in Modesto. Team 254F qualified for the state tournament, and Team 254G qualified for both state and worlds based upon their performances at these tournaments.

Our Varsity cross country and football teams were awarded 2012-2013 Fall Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards by the Central Coast Section (CCS) of the California Interscholastic Federation.

Members of Bellarmine's robotics team joined industry leaders at the Semiconductor Industry Association's (SIA) annual awards event on November 29th. Team 254 was one of several local high school robotics teams invited to the event, where FIRST founder and noted inventor Dean Kamen delivered the keynote address.

Our "Bring a Blanket" winter warmth drive was a community effort, supported by current students and families, as well as our alumni community, to provide care and warmth to hundreds.

The 5th annual Bay Area VEX Tournament was hosted by Bellarmine on November 16th and 17th. Two of Bellarmine's seven teams, Team 254A and 254C, along with third alliance partner 5369, won the tournament, thereby qualifying for the World VEX Tourmament in April 2013.

Bellarmine College Prep won its 24th Central Coast Section water polo title with a 9-8 victory over Menlo-Atherton on Saturday, but not without some late-game drama.

Bellarmine's production of the Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby captured the hearts of its audience throughout its six day run in the Sobrato Theatre. The adaptation of the Dicken's novel included a cast of 24 students, who played over 110 roles, as well as a large technical component, uncommon to high school productions.

On a chilly Friday night, November 2nd, on the hill at Valley Christian, the Bellarmine Bells had their offense firing on all cylinders for a tough-fought 38-35 victory. The win assures the Bells (8-1, 6-0 WCAL) of no worse than a tie for first place with Serra; however, Bellarmine has already defeated the Padres and would capture the tiebreaker.

The morning after varsity football's big win against rival St. Francis, nine members of the squad welcomed forty boys from Sacred Heart Nativity School to Bellarmine. For the 7th and 8th graders, the field trip was their cherished annual football day; for the Bells it was an opportunity to share their stories, their skills and the love of the game.

Our four cross country teams ran WCAL III at Crystal Springs on October 31st, and walked away with four WCAL championships. This is the 5th straight year that the Bells have taken the league titles at all four levels.

The Bells football team took sole possession of 1st place in the WCAL with a 35-28 win over St. Ignatius on Saturday, October 27th.

Despite a busy competition schedule and the pool time required in preparation, the varsity water polo team spent an afternoon in service at Second Harvest Food Bank on October 15th.

Team 254 competed in CalGames 2012, a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) off-season event, on October 13th. Supported by nearly 100 Bells and five industry mentors, the Cheesy Poofs won all six of their championship rounds to clinch the tournament.

Science instructor, Patrick Adams, was announced as the recipient of the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Green Tree award this morning during an impromptu classroom ceremony.

Katy Murphy, Director of College Counseling, was voted President-elect of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) during their national conference this past weekend.

With one last chance to score late in the fourth quarter Friday night, the Bells answered with its biggest play of the season - a 46-yard touchdown pass from K.J. Carta-Samuels to Jared Vallner - securing a 14-10 win over Archbishop Mitty.

With a gentle breeze coming off the bay to break the heat, the Bells swept WCAL I at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale on October 3rd. The Bells, who hosted the event, ran away with perfect scores in the sophomore and junior varsity divisions.

Eighty Bells participated in the 27th annual International Coastal Cleanup which took place on September 15th. Mr. Patrick Adams, science teacher and beach captain for Save Our Shores and Ocean Conservancy, sponsors of the event, coordinated the Bellarmine volunteer effort, which included students from our Marine Biology, AP Environmental Science and Botany classes , as well as members of SEAS (Student Environmental Action Society) and the Bell Surf Club.

Twenty-two Bells hosted adults from Catholic Charities' Handicapables program on campus September 15th.
