Members of the Free the Children Club sponsored a "water walk" on May 17th, which served as a fundraiser to help them toward their goal of building a school in Kenya, and simulated for its participants the experience which many African girls live each day in order to provide clean water for their villages.
Our varsity golf, lacrosse, tennis and track teams were awarded 2013 Spring Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards by the Central Coast Section (CCS) of the California Interscholastic Federation on May 10th. Bellarmine students on the lacrosse and tennis teams ranked first within their respective sports.
The Bells brought home their 31st CCS Swimming Championship - their 29th in a row - from competition on May 10th and 11th at the Santa Clara Swim Center. The team amassed 375 points to take first place, followed by Palo Alto with 227 points.
The Bells claimed their fourth straight West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) championship title this past weekend. In 16 events, the varsity team scored 205 points. Saint Francis came in second with 101 points, followed by Serra with 95.
The varsity baseball team beat Serra 12-2 on May 9th to capture the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) tournament title.
Toshiba and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) announced on May 1st that the Bellarmine-sponsored team of Nikhil Buduma, Alex Powers, Nithin Buduma and Natalie Ng has been named 2013 ExploraVision National Winners at the 10-12th grade level.
The Varsity swim team captured the WCAL championship title, posting a perfect 6-0 league record and coming out on top at the WCAL Finals on May 4th. The Bells' 526 points was more than sufficient to capture the finals, with second place going to St. Ignatius with 384 points.
The REACH Youth Scholarship Program recognized senior captain of the golf team, Jonathon Purcell, during an awards ceremony on May 1st. True to the purview of the program, Jonathon has overcome adversity to excel in academics and sports.
The Bells ended St. Francis' twelve game winning streak at home on April 30th, with a dramatic 1-0 win in the bottom of the seventh.
Junior Sameer Rai swept the National History Bowl in Washington, DC, April 27th and 28th, earning titles as National History Bowl Champion, National History Bee Champion, MVP and Best Solo Team.
