Basketball Clinches WCAL Title for First Time in 16 Years

Posted: February 16, 2017

For the first time since 2001, the Bells clinched the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) championship title, with a home court, Senior Night win against Valley Christian on February 15.

The Bells led by three points, 13-10, after the first quarter, but extended that lead over the next two periods, outscoring Valley Christian 43-16 to build a 30-point advantage. Reserves played the entire fourth quarter, closing out the game with the 73-40 win.

The team is undefeated in the league, with one remaining game standing between them and school history. Coach Patrick Schneider told the Mercury News, "I think we're playing our best basketball of the year right now. Guys are moving the ball really well and defensively so locked in ... we have earned this championship. But our hands will be full going to SI to finish off that unblemished league record."

The Bells play St. Ignatius in San Francisco on Saturday, February 18 at 6:30. The game will be live streamed on The Cube.
