Ice Hockey Honors Bell Alum Stephen Caban '15

Bellarmine's ice hockey team paid tribute to one of their own, former teammate Stephen Caban '15, on Thursday, December 8. A hockey injury during Caban's junior year led to the discovery of kidney cancer, which he has been battling ever since.

In a ceremony held at SAP Center prior to their game against Valley Christian, the team honored Caban's passion for the game by retiring his jersey. Teammates remembered Caban for his constant smile and the example he set for love of team. Although Stephen could not attend the tribute, his sister, Alyssa, said "Stephen would be speechless, he would be so excited, and he would say Go Bells! Most of all, he loves Bellarmine; this is his community and his life."

The Sharks Foundation made the event possible through its Fight Cancer program.

    San Andreas, CA — Another successful Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee came to a close on Sunday. In the keynote event, the International Frog Jump, Kermit, entered by 19-year-old Justin Fasano (Class of 2016) of San Jose, was the top winner with a jump of 18 ft., 4 inches. It was just over three ft. behind the all-time record set by Rosie the Ribbiter, entered by Lee Guidici in 1986, with a jump of 21 ft., five inches. The fair reports that Fasano is a third generation frog jumper, following his father Bob and grandfather Gene, who started the Gustine Frog Team 60 years ago. For having the top frog in the jump, Fasano received a $750 prize.

    Bellarmine College Preparatory held its Hall of Fame ceremony the evening of April 1, recognizing five distinguished alumni. Those honored, and their respective categories, were: Michael Blach, Class of 1981 (Business); Anthony Saglimbeni, M.D., Class of 1981 (Science and Medicine); Father John Baumann, S.J., Class of 1956 (Public Service); Dave Gaggero, Class of 1994 (Athletics); and Viet Thanh Nguyen, Class of 1988 (Humanities and Fine Arts).
