Ice Hockey Honors Bell Alum Stephen Caban '15

Posted: December 12, 2016

Bellarmine's ice hockey team paid tribute to one of their own, former teammate Stephen Caban '15, on Thursday, December 8. A hockey injury during Caban's junior year led to the discovery of kidney cancer, which he has been battling ever since.

In a ceremony held at SAP Center prior to their game against Valley Christian, the team honored Caban's passion for the game by retiring his jersey. Teammates remembered Caban for his constant smile and the example he set for love of team. Although Stephen could not attend the tribute, his sister, Alyssa, said "Stephen would be speechless, he would be so excited, and he would say Go Bells! Most of all, he loves Bellarmine; this is his community and his life."

The Sharks Foundation made the event possible through its Fight Cancer program.

KPIX coverage of the ceremony can be viewed on YouTube.
