Golfers Claim WCAL Title and All League Honors

Posted: May 5, 2016

For the second year in a row, the varsity golfers swept West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) round robin play as well as the league tournament, laying claim to the championship title.

On a beautiful day in the hills above Hayward, the Bells tallied a 366 team score to grab the title at the very tough TPC Stonebrae course. The Bells, lead by junior Berk Harvey's 71 (-1), were able to hold off both St. Francis and St. Ignatius. Harvey earned individual Medalist honors for the second time in two years with his performance. Austin Murphy, who shot a 72, earned an individual medal for his second place finish in the tournament, and also captured Player of the Year honors for the lowest differential in the round robin (0.380), edging out Eddy Lai (0.411) for the title. Team captain Boots Del Biaggio shot a 73, for which he received an individual medal. Rounding out the scores at the tournament were Ben Beiers and Eddy Lai, who each shot a 75.

"The team is strong because the players push all year long, challenging each other to reach their own potentials," said head coach Louie Agelson. "And that in turn makes for a strong program."

The Bells now move on to post-season with Central Coast Section (CCS) Regionals on Wednesday, May 11.
