Football Team Supports Pack-a-Back Drive

Posted: August 18, 2015

The football team collected over 60 backpacks, as well as bags full of school supplies, for Sacred Heart Community Service's Annual Pack-a-Back drive. Participation in the drive has become a yearly tradition for the team, which also assisted with the distribution of more than 3000 backpacks filled with supplies to low-income students on August 7th.

The time spent gathering and distributing the packbacks was an important and memorable experience for the team. Following are several student reflections providing insight into their opportunity to put the "men for and with others" motto into action:

Sacred Heart was an awesome place; everyone there was so lively and excited to be doing their jobs. I was part of the group the helped families pick which backpacks they wanted off of the wall. I loved the smiles on the kids' faces when the got the backpack they wanted. ~ Peter Ciari '17

I had a great time with all my teammates helping the people out at Sacred Heart. This helped enforce the idea that you have to think about the wellness of others just as much as the wellness of yourself. All in all, I had a great time connecting with some of the families. ~ Ike Ogbogu '17

… The students were all very excited to receive new supplies, and the parents were happy to know that their children could now strive to reach academic goals. Knowing that this small task changed the lives of so many people is also what made this experience so great. Being privileged my entire life, I enjoyed seeing those who are disadvantaged now share my happiness. I look forward to helping more of those in need, and hopefully changing their lives forever. ~ Joseph Tanzi '17
