Track Athletes Form Citrus Brigade

Posted: April 13, 2012

More than 30 intrepid members of the track team, chaperoned by faculty members Erick Berrelleza, S.J., and Patrick McCrystle, banded together under ominous skies on April 12th as Bellarmine's Citrus Brigade 2012. The group, braving cold, muddy conditions - and the unforgiving spines of dozens of sturdy citrus trees - harvested 2,990 pounds of fruit for Second Harvest Food Bank. The efforts of this hoard of distance runners was enough to surpass last year's yield of 2300 pound of citrus.

Thank you to residents of Naglee Park, sophomore Elliot Wilde's Sunnyvale neighborhood, and faculty member Leo Ruth, who welcomed the brigade into their yards for the harvest.
