AP/Honor Courses - Student Schedule - Important Letter from Principal

Posted: February 1, 2019

Dear Bellarmine Students and Parents,

For the past two years, administrators, academic/college counselors, and Advanced Placement teachers
have engaged in diligent discussion with a focus on balancing academic rigor with our identity as a Jesuit
school committed to student well-being and healthy balance. We are pleased to share the following with
you, which we believe achieves this objective.

We will maintain our core approach to scheduling. Students will continue to discern their course
selections by engaging in thoughtful conversations with their counselor, who will help to determine the
appropriate academic plan for your son. Our recommendation remains the same that no student should
take more than three AP/Honors courses per semester. However, we recognize some might like to
challenge themselves more. Below are the maximum AP/Honors courses any student can take during his
year in school.

Freshmen Year - Maximum of three (3) Honors courses, based upon challenge test results

Sophomore Year - Maximum of three (3) AP/Honors courses - Class of 2022 ~ Strongly recommend completion of Visual/Performing
Arts requirement before Computer Science

Junior Year Maximum of four (4) AP/honors courses if a student has a free period OR if the 7th period is Art or PE
Maximum of three (3) AP/honors courses if a student is taking seven (7) classes and the 7th class is Computer Science AP

Senior Year Maximum of four (4) AP/Honors courses

Ensuring that students are able fully to reach their God-given talents and participate in our rich academic environment is key to fulfilling our mission. Counselors are available to talk with the student and are available as a resource for the family. Bellarmine values your support and belief in our desire to help form “men for and with others.”
