Mothers' Guild Supports Strake Jesuit in Aftermath of Hurricane

The Mothers’ Guild felt the tug at their hearts to do something to help Strake Jesuit, after learning that many families were directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Lenore Grant, Christian Service Special Projects Chair for the Bellarmine Mothers’ Guild (BMG), contacted members of Strake Jesuit’s Mothers’ Club shortly after the hurricane, to ask how the BMG could help. The Mothers’ Club described a tradition of providing “prayer blankets” to families in crises, and explained that with over 100 families affected by the floods of the hurricane, they were in need of more blankets. Lenore, along with Heidi Grassman, BMG Vice-President for Spirituality, organized the project of solidarity and love, rallying Bell moms to construct approximately 30 blankets, which were made in Strake Jesuit’s signature green and white. Each blanket was adorned with three charms – a horseshoe, a bell and a cross, representing the two schools and our shared Jesuit tradition. Each knot tied in the construction of the blankets represented prayers sent across the miles, our bond as Jesuit communities, and hope for comfort and solace as families dealt with devastating loss and the process of recovery.

The blankets were blessed by Fr. Mario Prietto, S.J., Superior of Bellarmine’s Jesuit Community, before being sent to Houston, and we hope they not only provide needed warmth from the elements but the feeling of peace from being encircled by God’s love.

    Welcome to the Bellarmine Mothers’ Guild! We are looking forward to a wonderful and fun year. Below are some of our upcoming fall events. Please check back here for more information on how to register and to get involved. Registration links will be added early August.

    August 19: Get Acquainted Picnic (GAP) for New and Transfer Families. This morning begins with a wonderful outdoor mass and picnic. Check-in begins at 9:00 am, followed by Mass at 10:00 am. As with all Bellarmine liturgical celebrations, all faiths are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Look for more information and how to RSVP closer to August.

    September 4: Bellarmine Mothers’ Guild (BMG) Meeting. 6:15pm at the Liccardo Center. Come enjoy the camaraderie of the other Bellarmine moms, learn more about the Mother's Guild and how to become involved!

    September 10: Fashion Show Committee Meeting. 6:30 pm in the Andrade Theater (BCP Library). All mothers are invited to attend the 64th Annual Bellarmine Mothers' Guild Fashion Show Committee Meeting. Being involved with the Fashion Show is a great way to meet other moms and quickly get involved in one of the most exciting events at Bellarmine. Volunteers of all types are needed (committee chairs, committee members, short term, long term). Please join us!

    October 2: BMG Open House Meeting - 6:15pm at the Liccardo Center - Come enjoy the camaraderie of the other Bellarmine moms; enjoy our special guest speaker, our wonderful principal, Mrs. Luscher; and a quick business meeting discussing upcoming BMG events.

    October 21: Mother-Son Event - Moms and sons event focused on having fun playing games and enjoying time together.

    November 6: BMG Meeting - 6:15pm at the Liccardo Center. Come enjoy fellow Bellarmine Moms and hear our guest speaker, Anne Maloney, sharing her insights on Bellarmine Christian Service and the Winter Warmth Drive.

    November 11: Diwali Celebration - Join us for a family celebration of the Indian "Festival of Lights" including food and cultural events. This event will take place in the Liccardo Event Center.

    Nov 12 – 20: Winter Warmth Drive. If you are able to help, please consider donating new or gently used blankets, sleeping bags, coats, jackets, raincoats, sweatshirts and other warm clothing. New socks are also needed. Drop off will be in the Liccardo parking lot near the Hedding Street overpass.

    November 17: The 64th Mother's Guild Fashion Show for Financial Aid – Route 66 Bells on the Road. This is a very fun luncheon and an evening show with the spectacular fashion show, featuring Bellarmine boys. Please visit the Fashion Show web page to learn more and to sign up to volunteer.

    December 9: Fiesta de Guadalupe Mass and Brunch- A fun family celebration for the patron saint of the Americas and Mexico with cultural food and activities.

    Welcome to the 2018 Fashion Show Committee! We are so happy to have you on our team. We are asking all committee members to please pay a one-time $35 Fashion Show Committee hospitality fee to cover the cost of refreshments served at all three Fashion Show General Meetings - April 18th, May 14th, and September 10th.

    You may pay online or bring a check (made out to BCP) to one of the meetings and give your check to Kim Carey, Treasurer.
