Mothers' Guild Supports Strake Jesuit in Aftermath of Hurricane

The Mothers’ Guild felt the tug at their hearts to do something to help Strake Jesuit, after learning that many families were directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Lenore Grant, Christian Service Special Projects Chair for the Bellarmine Mothers’ Guild (BMG), contacted members of Strake Jesuit’s Mothers’ Club shortly after the hurricane, to ask how the BMG could help. The Mothers’ Club described a tradition of providing “prayer blankets” to families in crises, and explained that with over 100 families affected by the floods of the hurricane, they were in need of more blankets. Lenore, along with Heidi Grassman, BMG Vice-President for Spirituality, organized the project of solidarity and love, rallying Bell moms to construct approximately 30 blankets, which were made in Strake Jesuit’s signature green and white. Each blanket was adorned with three charms – a horseshoe, a bell and a cross, representing the two schools and our shared Jesuit tradition. Each knot tied in the construction of the blankets represented prayers sent across the miles, our bond as Jesuit communities, and hope for comfort and solace as families dealt with devastating loss and the process of recovery.

The blankets were blessed by Fr. Mario Prietto, S.J., Superior of Bellarmine’s Jesuit Community, before being sent to Houston, and we hope they not only provide needed warmth from the elements but the feeling of peace from being encircled by God’s love.

    Social time begins at 6:15pm, followed by an insightful presentation from Mrs. Luscher, our wonderful Principal.

    Allmoms are encouraged to come and learn about new things that are underway at Bellarmine. Our Mothers' Guild Chairs will also preview the upcoming fall events. It is a busy and exciting month to Belong, Connect and Participate.

    Duct Tape Parenting: Step Back So Kids Can Step Up

    Parent coach and educator Vicki Hoefle provides a relationship-based guide for raising kids who will develop the respect, responsibility and resilience needed to go out in the world. She challenges parents to step back and let children learn from their mistakes. Giving children the space to step up and solve problems build self-regulation, self-confidence and self-reliance. Hoefle also tackles the tricky terrain of parenting as partners, guiding parents towards collaborative decision making to enhance family harmony.
