Weltz '05 Finishes 5th in London Olympic Games

Posted: August 1, 2012

Scott Weltz '05 placed fifth in the men's 200-meter breaststroke held on August 1st. Although that did not earn him an Olympic medal, he has distinguished himself and won the admiration of thousands.

The media has nicknamed Weltz "the Accidental Olympian", and unofficially awarded him the Pierre de Coubertin Award - for the athlete who most exemplifies the Olympic founder's motto that participating in the Games is more important than winning. To the Bellarmine community, he is personification of the Jesuit ideal of “Age Quod Agis” or "do well whatever you do."
