Program

The purpose and goals of Bellarmine's Athletic Department mirror those of the school in general: to form “men for others,” young men who will be characterized by their competence, conscience, and compassion. This same philosophy also applies to all of those affiliated with Bellarmine athletics, including athletes, coaches, parents, and fans. While Bellarmine has been very fortunate to meet with a great deal of success in the athletic realm, Bellarmine’s teams do so in a manner that also seeks the magis – the greater good.

Bellarmine fields 34 teams in 13 different sports. Three of those sports, and nine teams, are “no cut” sports, open to any student who is willing to commit his time and energy to the requirements of the team. In the Fall, Bellarmine fields teams in Football, Cross Country, and Water Polo. Winter sports include Basketball, Soccer, and Wrestling. The spring is the busiest season, with students competing in: Baseball, Track and Field, Golf, Swimming and Diving, Tennis, Volleyball, and Lacrosse, Bellarmine’s newest sport.

In 2006, more than 900 student-athletes represented Bellarmine on one or more athletic teams, as indicated by the chart to the right. Additionally, Bellarmine enjoyed a very successful year in athletics as well in 2006, winning WCAL titles in soccer, baseball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and water polo, and CCS titles in baseball, soccer, swimming, tennis, and water polo.
