Will I be able to make a team at Bellarmine? Hide

While competition to make the team in some sports at Bellarmine is certainly rigorous, each season also has at least one “no cut” sport. Cross Country, Wrestling, Swimming, and Track and Field do not make cuts. Additionally, getting cut from a sport has proven to be a real benefit for some athletes in the past, as this has encouraged them to try something new. Many of those who play lacrosse, wrestle, or run cross country do so for the first time at Bellarmine, and discover that they love the sport. Additionally, last year, there were spots on athletic teams for 335 freshmen, so there is ample opportunity for the majority of students to participate in athletics, if they choose to do so.

Can I play for my club team and still play for Bellarmine? Hide

While the specific answer to this question varies a little bit from sport to sport, the basic answer is “yes.” In most sports, students are not allowed to engage in competitions in the same sport at the same time – so when you start playing games for Bellarmine’s soccer team, for example, you need to stop playing or practicing with your club team. Fortunately, most club sports are used to this system, and arrange their playing schedules accordingly. Does attending a summer camp improve my chance of making the team? Hide

No. While attending a summer camp is one opportunity to improve your skills, it certainly isn’t the only way. Athletes will improve by attending a summer camp, but the primary focus of these camps is for students to enjoy themselves. These camps also provide students with an opportunity to get to know members of Bellarmine’s coaching staff and current Bellarmine athletes, and to make new friends.

Can I play multiple sports at Bellarmine? Hide

Absolutely. While many students may choose to focus their energy on one sport, the athletic department firmly believes that there is value in trying multiple sports, and encourages students to do just that. Every student has an equal opportunity to try out for his sport, and students are never penalized for coming out later for sport, after their prior season has ended.

Who are the coaches at Bellarmine? Hide

The majority of Bellarmine’s coaches are teachers at Bellarmine. This is not to say, however, that they don’t know their sports – most coaches bring years of experience and all have a passion for the sport which they coach.
