Bellarmine is a member of the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL). The WCAL consists of eleven schools, nine of which compete in boys’ sports. Schools in the boys’ division of the WCAL include: Bellarmine, Archbishop Mitty, Archbishop Riordan, Junipero Serra, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Saint Francis, Saint Ignatius, Valley Christian, and Sacred Heart Preparatory (in aquatics only). In lacrosse, Bellarmine competes in the Peninsula Athletic League (PAL).
The WCAL was founded in 1967 as a venue in which schools that share a common mission could engage in athletic competition. In addition to sharing these common values, the league is also widely regarded as one of the most competitive in California.
The WCAL is a member of the Central Coast Section (CCS). The CCS consists of 12 different athletic leagues and roughly 140 high schools spanning the entire Bay Area and beyond, from San Francisco to Monterey. The CCS, in turn, is a member of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), which governs all high school athletics in the state of California.
