Applications Process - Class of 2017
Thank you for your interest in Bellarmine.
The application process for incoming freshmen consists of three major components: the online application, required forms and the High School Placement Test. Details for each are described below and are also included in our Admissions Process Overview document.
Online Application
Applicants applying to a Catholic high school must submit an application to each high school to which he is applying. The online application for the class of 2017 will be available in the Fall of 2012. The deadline for submission will be December 14, 2012.
The Admissions Department will open a file for you once you have completed the online portion of the application and submitted the $75 application fee. The $75 fee is non-refundable and it covers the fee for the HSPT entrance exam.
Required Forms
The following forms are required in addition to the online application.
- Transcript and Standardized Test Scores Request Form: This form should be provided to the school secretary or registrar. The school should include 7th and 8th grade transcripts and standardized test scores. If the school has standardized testing after January 30th, test scores from 7th grade will be sufficient. A parent must sign this form.
- Principal Recommendation Form: This form should be given to the Principal to complete. If a Principal is unable to complete the form, a teacher or counselor may complete it.
- Teacher Recommendation Form: To be completed by a current 7th or 8th grade teacher.
- Non-Academic Recommendation Form : This form should be completed by an adult who knows the applicant well, outside of the classroom setting. It is helpful to provide the individual with a stamped envelope addressed to Bellarmine.
Catholic applicants must also submit a copy of their Baptismal Certificate. A Baptismal Certificate is not required for non-Catholics, although a certificate appropriate to one's religion is welcomed. You may scan and email a copy to Terry Council (tcouncil@bcp.org), fax a copy to (408) 294-4086 or mail a copy to the Admissions Department. This copy is due by December 14, 2012.
The file completion deadline (for applications which are submitted prior to the December deadline) is February 6, 2013. Within a week after the deadline, you should see a check mark indicating that all required forms have been received. If a document is missing from your file, you will be notified via email and given time to submit the missing paperwork. Due to the large volume of mail we receive, we are unable to check on the receipt of any individual document or whether a specific letter has arrived in our office. If any paperwork from your school is received past the deadline, you will not be penalized.
If you would like to apply for financial aid, please refer to the information found on the Tuition and Financial Aid web pages.
High School Placement Test (HSPT)
Students can take the HSPT entrance exam at Bellarmine or at any of the other San Jose diocesan high schools. Applicants may also take the test in a diocese other than San Jose, e.g., Oakland or San Francisco. The exam may only be taken once and you must register in advance.
If you would like to take the exam at Bellarmine, you will find the registration form within the online application. We will be offering the exam on January 12, 2013, and January 26, 2013.
