Technology

Bellarmine's unique location in the heart of Silicon Valley allows us to draw upon the wealth of experience local technology companies have to offer. Our goal is to identify, maintain, and implement cutting-edge personal and enterprise technologies for the sole purpose of enhancing the college preparatory learning experience a Bellarmine student receives. In terms of infrastructure, each and every classroom has a permanently mounted LCD or DLP projector, a sound system loud enough easily to be heard by all, at least one fast and capable desktop PC running Windows XP, set top players supporting DVD and VHS playback, and an IP telephone. Supporting the nearly 1000 network devices is an incredibly robust campus network backbone built with Extreme Networks switches. The fully-redundant fiber-optic backbone runs at gigabit speeds connecting all buildings on campus and feeding every room and office (3) CAT5 twisted-pair cables and 6 strands of multi-mode fiber optics. Every node on our network of course has full access to the Internet and its many valuable resources all of which gets passes through devices protecting users from Viruses, Trojans, and Spyware.

This admittedly overbuilt infrastructure deftly enables the dynamic portion of this equation - the creative uses of these cutting-edge technologies identified by our highly skilled and motivated teachers. Individually driven, teachers strive to find new ways to use these enablers to capture the widest range of student attention possible. Attending to the multitude of learning styles represented by today's high school student, teachers present materials and assess progress in new and innovative ways, daily striving consistently to engage each and every student. Our teachers' proficiency with cutting-edge technologies also helps them to be more efficient in their daily duties, which in the end means they get to spend more time face-to-face with their students - an invaluable aspect of Bellarmine's college preparatory experience. Bellarmine uses a campus-wide wireless network for all to use. We are thrilled to see the new and innovative ways teachers and students alike take advantage of this wonderful resource. Mission Statement

"The goal of the Bellarmine Information Technology Program is to reach a level of competence, familiarity, and use that are appropriate to the educational mission of the school. That goal has three parts: to provide facilities that are at a state of readiness and repair so that faculty, staff, and student body have easy access to all current educational modes; to provide instruction in the use of the variety of hardware and software so that faculty, staff, and students are comfortable with and adept in their use; to remain current in all these areas of information technology as a way of ensuring the highest level of instruction and computer usage."
