Upcoming Productions

Spring Comedy - Taming of the Shrew

AUDITIONS: March 14 and 15 (come either day), 3:30 pm, Sobrato Theatre. Approximately 11 men and four women will be cast.
REHEARSALS: Monday - Friday, 4:00 - 6:15 pm
PERFORMANCES: May 11 - 13 and 17 - 19

In this comedy of bad manners and uncouth courtship, boorish Petruchio and rebellious Katherina are equally matched - it’s the playing field that isn’t level. As the #metoo phenomenon and Time’s Up movement stoke social change, Shakespeare’s controversial “battle of the sexes” tale - romantic comedy, blistering satire, or both? - affords an opportunity to explore toxic masculinity and the struggle of women to assert their full identities in a world some men believe belongs to them. This modern-dress adaptation will reflect contemporary attitudes and question the stories men tell about women.

Costumes by Jean Toohey. Lights by Maren Lane. Sets and Technical Direction by Gregg Carlson.

Directed by Peter Canavese.
