The purpose and goals of Bellarmine's Athletic Department mirror those of the school in general - to form young men who will be characterized by their competence, conscience, and compassion, “men for others” . This same philosophy applies to all individuals affiliated with Bellarmine athletics including athletes, coaches, parents and fans. While Bellarmine has been very fortunate to meet with a great deal of success in the athletic realm, our teams do so in a manner that also seeks the magis – the greater good.
Bellarmine fields 36 teams in 13 different sports. Four of those sports, and nine teams, are “no cut” sports, open to any student who is willing to commit his time and energy to the requirements of the team. In the fall, Bellarmine fields teams in cross country, football and water polo. Winter sports include basketball, soccer and wrestling. Spring is our busiest season, with students competing in baseball, golf, lacrosse, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
In addition to a strong sports offering, the athletic department boasts tremendous services for our student-athletes. A state-of-the-art fitness center, with a full-time strength and conditioning specialist, provides a platform for physical fitness and development for all. Additionally, Bellarmine provides the highest level of sports medicine care for the student-athlete, with a first-class facility and two dedicated full-time athletic trainers who provide care and rehabilitation for the entire athletic community.
More than 1100 student-athletes represented Bellarmine in 2011-2012, on one or more athletic teams, as indicated by the chart to the right. Additionally, the Bells enjoyed a very successful year, capturing WCAL titles in cross country, football, golf, swimming, tennis and track, and CCS titles in football, water polo, basketball and swimming.
